A Winning Result for Tsogo Sun Race

With action-packed horseracing and outstanding entertainment, The Tsogo Sun Sprint, Pietermaritzburg’s oldest and richest sprint race, hosted a glamorous crowd at Scottsville Racecourse, Golden Horse Casino on 23 May 2015.

This year’s theme: Unbridled African Flair, was tangible in both the atmosphere and in the fashion. Guests arrived in their finest with an African twist, setting the ambience for the much anticipated glitz and glamour of a day at the races. Racegoers had fun with the theme, making the day even more entertaining and exciting with many different interpretations on African fashion.

Guests were treated to champagne and gourmet food in the VIP tent as the racecourse was set alight. The fastest sprint horses tore down the track in a bid for R3 million in prize money during the course of the day, creating an energy and excitement around the betting that was nothing short of adrenalin-packed.

Trained by Dennis Drier, Captain Of All confirmed his status as the leading male sprinter in South Africa when he stormed to an emphatic victory in Saturday’s R1 million Gr1 Tsogo Sun Sprint race.

The Tsogo Sun Sprint 2015 champions were: horse: Captain Of All, Jockey: Sean Cormack and trainer: Dennis Drier. Says Andrew Irumba, Marketing Manager at Golden Horse Casino, “The Tsogo Sun Sprint was a roaring success. Months of planning and hard work went into ensuring that we delivered on our promise to position this horseracing event – the oldest and richest in South Africa – as one to mark on the calendar every year henceforth.

“We believe that the Tsogo Sun Sprint contributed significantly to Pietermaritzburg tourism, as many people headed into town to attend the racing event and in turn supported our local businesses. We believe that the event will continue to contribute to the growth in tourism in our area, in the future.”

Avid horse racing fans, the stylish and the trendy were all treated to outstanding entertainment following the excitement of the races at a VIP after party and a late-night performance by Loyiso Bala, rounding off a day that was described by many as the best to date.

“This year’s Tsogo Sun Sprint was arguably the best in its history. From the flawlessly executed logistics to the participation of Tsogo Sun guests from all over the country. On behalf of Tsogo Sun, I’d like to thank our partners in this unique sporting event – the City of Pietermaritzburg, Capital Media and East Coast Radio. The success of this event is, without doubt, the result of a collaboration of partners who share the commitment to ensure that this race continues to go from strength to strength.” Says Sizwe Jantjie, Tsogo Sun’s Events and Entertainment Manager – Group.
